This year has been pretty hot.

The weather has regularly tipped 30 degrees and for the most part I’ve been enjoying the warm weather and long summer nights.

However sometimes I would have given anything for a chilly November evening so I could take a break from the baking hot nights, (I definitely think air conditioning will start to become a thing in homes across the UK.

Sweat soaked nights aside, I’ve spent a lot of weekends exploring the countryside getting some trail running in and in particular around the south coast which up until now I haven’t really bothered about, preferring to head further North or into Wales for the mountains.

The coastal trails around Devon, Cornwall and even Dover have kept my interest peaked through the summer, then in one particular trip to Cornwall another sport altogether took my interest - surfing.

As I watched the surfers at Perrenporth beach, the way they cut along the wave reminded me of snowboarding and carving down the slope.

Having been a snowboarder for 10 years it suddenly hit me. Why have I ever not thought about this before? Surfing in the summer and boarding in the winter with trail running scattered throughout the year would be an awesome way to spend my free weekends.

Typically this inspiration has come a little bit late being the beginning of October and my weekends are booked up until November but still, come spring I want to be swapping the snowboard for the surfboard and getting some lessons in and hopefully this could be the start of a whole new boarding relationship.
